Two kinds of error

The first kind is ours. A join that put a product under the wrong ingredient, a strength rendered in the wrong unit, a use assigned to a product whose label does not claim it, a broken link, a sentence that reads as a recommendation when it was meant as a report. All of those are our responsibility, and all of them get corrected and dated here.

The second kind is in the federal source. If FDA's listing records a strength that does not match the physical package, or a labeller that has not marketed the product for years, this site will show what FDA holds, because showing anything else would mean publishing a third version of reality that agrees with neither the package nor the register.

Where that happens the right route is to FDA rather than to us. Labellers maintain their own listings, and a corrected listing flows into the next build of this site automatically. We will note the discrepancy on the page in the meantime if it is significant, and we will say that it is a discrepancy rather than silently choosing a side.

The distinction is not a way of avoiding responsibility. It is the only honest way to run a site whose entire claim is that its numbers come from a named federal release on a stated date.

What we will not do

These are commitments rather than intentions, and each one is a thing a site like this is routinely asked to do.

• Change a figure without dating the change. A quiet edit is indistinguishable from never having been wrong, and it destroys the only thing that makes a reference useful.
• Remove a product because a labeller asks. If a listing exists in the FDA National Drug Code Directory, it appears here. The route to removing it from this site is to remove it from the federal listing, which is the labeller's own to maintain.
• Add a product that is not in the listing. No amount of evidence that a product exists is a substitute for a row. A product with no listing has no page.
• Reorder a table on request. Every list on this site is ordered by the data: by product count, by strength, or alphabetically. Nobody can pay for a position, and nobody can ask for one.
• Add or strengthen a claim about what an ingredient does. Where the site reports what a product treats, it is reporting the label. A request to describe an ingredient as effective is a request we will decline regardless of who makes it.

How to report one

Email hello@lozenges.com. Include the National Drug Code of the product, because it is the only identifier that resolves to exactly one row: brand names are reused across labellers and across strengths, and a description of a box is not enough to find a record.

It helps to say which page you were looking at, what the page says, and what you believe the correct value is. If your evidence is the physical package, saying so is useful in itself, because a mismatch between the package and the federal listing is a finding worth recording even when we cannot resolve it.

Corrections to the underlying data, requests to be told when a figure changes, and questions about how something was derived all go to the same address. The derivation rules are set out on the methodology page, and it is worth checking there first: several things that look like errors are documented decisions, including why menthol and levomenthol appear as separate ingredients and why products nobody can buy are listed rather than hidden.

The correction log

When corrections are issued they will be listed here, newest first, each with the date, the pages affected, what the site said, what it says now, and how the error arose. An empty log stated as empty is more informative than an invented history, so it is left empty rather than seeded with plausible entries.

Corrections that affect a figure appearing on many pages will say how many pages changed. Corrections that arise from a revision in the federal source rather than from an error of ours will say that too, since the two are different events even when they produce the same visible change.

The current data build

Every figure on this site comes from a single dated build. The current one was retrieved on 4 September 2026 and covers 1,260 products, 52 active ingredients, 438 brands and 157 labellers.

The build date appears in the footer of every page. When the site is rebuilt, that date changes and any revision FDA has made to the underlying listings is picked up with it. A figure changing between builds because the source changed is not a correction, and it will not appear in the log above.
